Generational differences are prevalent in the current labour market with the Millennial Generation slowly becoming the most prominent within the UK workforce. A generation like none before it, born and shaped into a world of technology, Millennials have significantly different attitudes and behaviours. For organisations to succeed, an understanding of how this generation works in order to manage them effectively is essential. A vast amount of literature is available on leadership and its effects on individuals, however the effects that different forms of leadership have on Millennials is limited. With this in mind, this research study’s aim was to investigate what leadership styles are being used to manage Millennials in today’s private sector workforce and find out how these styles affect job satisfaction, productivity and intent to leave. An online survey was used to collect quantitative data from 37 private sector workers over a variation of industries within the millennial generation in the South Wales area. Visionary leadership was identified as the style used the most by managers, with laissez-faire leadership being used the least. Trends in findings showed that all leadership styles outlined in this study increased job satisfaction, productivity and intention to stay in current organisations in participants, Although Autocratic decision making in managers was found to negatively affect these variables.
