The aim of this research study is to explore and evaluate the impact performance management has on employee motivation and achieving organisational goals within an SME called KEC. The objectives of the research are to; obtain a deeper understanding of performance management and its importance and use within an organization, how and why it is important organizations use performance management to achieve staff motivation, what practices within performance management are used and how useful these are in achieving motivation and finally, to analyse if performance management practices and motivation can help in achieving organisational goals.
Semi-Structured interviews were undertaken to analyse and explore these ideas, interviewing both managers and employees within KEC. The research explores individual’s perspectives on these ideas. The data was then analysed and discussed, cross analysing this with the literature review and statistics.
Findings from the study show that performance management is apparent within most organisations, whether this be conscious or not. However, it is not necessarily always the management of performance that contributes to staff motivation and the achievement of organisational goals. This research study was on a small scale and could be taken further in future studies.
