The purpose of this research project is to explore the link between natural disasters and the perceived safety of destinations which have been affected by them. Investigating this has enabled recommendations and suggestions to be made regarding how destinations may limit the negative impact of a natural disaster. To enable the project researcher to successfully answer the research questions of this study, both primary and secondary research has been carried out. The primary research was based around semi-structured interviews which resulted in qualitative data; the secondary research involved the analysis of multiple literature sources around relevant topics and themes. This research project contains an introduction to the subject matter and the study; as well as why the project researcher deems this project to be appropriate and worthwhile. Following this is a literature review which has enabled the project researcher to gain a depth of knowledge and understanding on relevant academic literature. A methodology section is included after the literature review to explain in detail all the methods of data collection and how it has been analysed. The results section enables the project researcher to discuss all findings from the semi-structured interviews and the literature review. Finally, there is a conclusion which summarises the key findings of this study, limitations which have been encountered, recommendations to the industry and suggestions for further research.
