dc.description.abstractPulse wave velocity (PWV) is a significant and independent predictor of cardiovascular mortality in subjects with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and is considered the gold standard of measuring arterial stiffness. The aim of the study is to compare the Mobil-O-Graph with the Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index (CAVI) to ascertain whether the PWV results are sufficiently similar to be interchangeable. In this study 39 patients participated in an experiment to collect data from the Mobil-O-Graph and the CAVI to measure PWV. The results were presented by means of a correlation scattergraph, P-Value, Two T-test and a Bland-Altman plot. Each subject attended once during the three week trial. Seventeen subjects were currently taking cardiovascular affecting medications. No lifestyle/medical limitations which could affect PWV were applied in this study. Correlation analysis found showing a good level of agreement in measuring PWV between the Mobil-O-Graph and the CAVI, with an R-Value of 0.79, however, this presents that discrepancies can still lie between the two machines. Further analysis illustrated that there is a significant difference between the two devices (P-Value 0.013) when measuring PWV. This is due to how the devices obtain PWV differently.en_US
