Sibling relationships are mostly long-lasting and can be a source of companionship, support and comfort. Siblings of individuals with special needs were once overlooked in research, however, there are an increasing amount of studies that focus on these types of sibling relationships. Previous research tends to focus on childhood and adolescence experiences, not taking adult perspectives into account. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of being an adult sibling to someone with SN, it looked at adulthood experiences, as well as childhood and adolescence perspectives. This study used a qualitative approach and semi-structured interviews to collect data. A total of six participants took part and Thematic Analysis was used to analyse the interviews. A total of six themes emerged from the analysis of all the interviews. These were Future Worries, Prejudice & Discrimination, Individual Differences & Challenges, Balancing Act, Unresolved Issues and Meaningful Relationships & Family. The results found in this study were consistent with previous research, certain themes corresponded with past studies that focused on adulthood experiences. Any future research could enhance on findings from the current study as well as any previous studies focusing on adult perspectives.
