This research project will be an exploratory study into adolescent mental health difficulties in the United Kingdom in the 21st century. This research project will consider factors that contribute to adolescents’ mental health in the 21st century, otherwise known as millennials mental health. Research for this project was carried out by doing a systematic review of peer reviewed journals and an online survey available to the public domain. Both qualitative and quantitative studies were considered to provide a rounded view of the results. As this study is about millennials, constant reviewing of newspaper articles was done prior to searching for articles. It was then that the first paper was chosen by searching for original sources of information. After searching for articles on Met Search, CINAHL and Google Scholar, the other three articles were chosen to be analysed. From issues found in the literature review, articles were searched using terms such as ‘social media’, ‘family’ and ‘bullying’. Findings have suggested that social media and the internet has the biggest impact on adolescent mental health, as it can create a place where adolescents cyber-bully and make comparisons to others online. Despite this, the future also worries adolescents, including school pressures (exams and gaining qualifications) and securing a job. It was suggested for researchers to identify problems surrounding suicidal behaviour and internet usage amongst adolescence for further research as this is an issue that is increasing in the 21st century.en_US
