Abstract
Pwrpas yr erthygl hon yw dangos bod rheolau sgrym Rygbi’r Undeb yn wallus. Mae annhegwch yn anorfod wrth geisio dehongli a gweithredu’r rheolau hyn. Gan fod y sgrym yn ddigwyddiad cydweithredol a chystadleuol sy’n gofyn am ystod o sgiliau a thechnegau cymhleth, mae’n amhosibl i ddyfarnwr benderfynu yn ddibynadwy pwy sydd yn gyfrifol am droseddu. O ganlyniad, mae chwaraewyr yn aml yn cael eu cosbi yn annheg. Gall y gosb fod yn dyngedfennol i ganlyniad y gêm. Nid y chwaraewyr a gosbwyd a achosodd y drosedd o reidrwydd, ac felly nid ydynt yn foesegol gyfrifol amdani. O dan rai amgylchiadau ni allant wrthsefyll y grymoedd sy’n gweithredu arnynt. Er mwyn datrys y sefyllfa rhaid ceisio cadw cydbwysedd rhwng gwella tegwch a thanseilio rhinweddau adloniadol y gêm.In this article we argue that the current laws of the scrum in Rugby Union inevitably lead to unfairness. The scrum is so biomechanically complex that it is impossible for a referee to reliably determine who deserves punishment when the scrum collapses. Consequently, undeserved penalties are inevitable. Furthermore, the players who are penalised may not be causally or morally responsible for the offence. Under certain pressures, they have no choice but to collapse. Resolving the issue is not an easy matter. There is an inevitable trade-off to be negotiated between fairness on the one hand and tradition, excitement and entertainment on the other.
